A Drone Tour of My Garden & Orchard
Exploring the landscape from above, a glimpse into the heart of our homestead
Here’s a look around some of our New Zealand homestead.
Since retiring—and with the kids grown and living their own lives—I’ve found myself facing an empty nest feeling I didn’t quite expect. I thought I’d breeze through it, but letting go of familiar roles and staying quietly on the sidelines while they make their own choices has been harder than I imagined. Still, in stepping back, I’m beginning to find space for something new. I’m returning to the land with a fresh focus.
Life here is never quiet, and the garden is behind, but I’m digging in again. From pulling weeds for the chickens to clearing space for sweet peas, the work is always there—and I’m learning to embrace its rhythm, even when things are a bit messy.
Today, I’m sharing a drone tour of the garden and orchard. It’s not about being perfect—it’s about having a go and figuring things out as I go. I pushed a lot of buttons to get everything to work, especially the uploading part to YouTube, but it’s done, and I’m glad to share it with you. (Not sure I can remember how to do it again…)
🌕 Filmed during the week of the Full Moon, May 2025.
The Full Moon has a way of marking a moment—of showing what’s come full circle and what’s ready to be let go of. There’s a kind of clarity to it. A sense of release, and also of recognising how far we’ve come, even if things still feel a bit messy.
This video isn’t perfect—it's my first attempt at sharing the garden in this way—but I hope you enjoy getting a peek into the space I’m working to grow. I’m hoping to share more like this, with weekly videos that give you a glimpse into life here on the homestead—gardening, caring for the animals, composting, tending to the worm farm, and everything else that makes up daily life in my little corner of New Zealand.
If you liked the tour, feel free to leave a comment or share your thoughts. I’d love to hear from you! And if you'd like to follow along as I continue sharing these moments, don’t forget to subscribe.
Love Leanne
